The Lexus Birmingham Open (formerly known as the Birmingham Classic) has attracted many of the biggest names in women’s tennis, including Martina Navratilova, Maria Sharapova, Ashleigh Barty and Petra Kvitova, with 10 past champions going on to win Wimbledon singles titles.
Pam Shriver holds the record for the most singles titles at the tournament, winning four years in a row between 1984 and 1987. Martina Navratilova, Lori McNeil, Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova have each won the singles title twice.
The men’s ATP Challenger 125 event joined the long-running WTA women’s tournament for the first time in 2025, with Otto Virtanen winning the inaugural men’s singles title.
Before 2025, Birmingham had been a women’s-only tournament since it was founded in 1982.
